MFW: Gucci Fall 2013

by The Feather Place NYC on February 27, 2013

Gucci’s luxurious shows never cease to impress us, and the designer Frida Giannini took it to the next level with their Fall 2013 collection at Milan Fashion Week!  We LOVED her innovative use of Peacock Swords and Ostrich Fringe on amazing body-con dresses. We even love her peek-a-boo use of Rooster Hackle overlaid with other feathers for depth. The Peacock Swords and paillettes over mesh added intricate touches to already fierce looks. The designer’s use of Ostrich Feathers on skirts and sleeve ends added a romantic touch in aquas and neutrals.

Check out the detailed shots above and full length looks below, and stay tuned for more Fashion Week coverage! Don’t forget to see the whole Gucci collection at Style.com!

Christopher Kane Fall 2013

by Zandrah on February 21, 2013

Our talented friend Christopher Kane happens to be one of those designers we always keep our eyes on.  We couldn’t be more pleased with his latest 2013 Fall Collection.  He demonstrates a brilliant use of feathers incorporating rich color combinations with their natural iridescence that really makes these pieces look organic and full of life.  Congratulations Christopher!

Spring 2013 Couture Shows Take Flight Down the Runways!

by The Feather Place NYC on February 4, 2013

Romance, fantasy, exoticism…. The Spring 2013 Couture shows had it all! Feathers came in all shapes and sizes, from fluffy dress trains to feather flowers to backpack adornments, and we loved every single look! Some of 2013’s hottest colors can be seen on the runway, such as pastels at Chanel, juicy light pinks at Giambattista Valli, and earthy greens at Maison Martin Margiela.

The Chanel collection above and below was shown in a fantasy forest, and their use of ostrich and chandelle feathers  gave the looks just the right amount of whimsy.

COUTURE1The two looks below are by Giambattista Valli and we love the intricate embroidery techniques they used to apply these rooster hackle and goose feathers. Rooster hackle was made into pretty pink flowers of all sizes, while the pink goose gave the second dress a more avant garde look.

COUTURE3Jean Paul Gaultier showed many inspirations from the East, and we loved this exotic feel. The designer used Ostrich Plumes on the back of this final look.

COUTURE5Below left is another avant garde yet beautiful look by the controversial Maison Martin Margiela. The designer used feather pointers to create an abstract top, with a tuft of ostrich feathers on the side which makes this piece look like a bird in flight! Below right is an ethereal Valentino gown fit for a bride, complete with feather flower embroidery.
