2015 had it’s fair share of fashionable and fresh feathered moments. Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and check out our favorites in a Year in Feathers.
JANUARY : Dynamic Duo – Meriç Canatan and Fatosh Erhuy are London and Cologne based designers who use feathers to create wearable fashion pieces. Together they have worked to create the ready to wear “birdy” accessory line which includes pheasant feather fascinators, headbands, guinea feather bowties and plumed scarfs.
FEBRUARY : Carnival & Mardi Gras is one of the few times during the year where the upper, middle and lower class come together in one place to splurge on themselves with marvelous feather costumes making their fantasies come true.
MARCH : Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty is a re-staging of his wildly popular 2011 NYC retrospective which showcases 244 designs created during his 18 year career.
APRIL : From Coachella to Burning Man, festival fashion just wouldn’t be the same without feathers adorning someone along the way. Whether you’re tapping into your inner hippie, gypsy, or rocker, there really are endless ways to uniquely stand out and personalize your look with feather accessories.
MAY : This Memorial Day 2015 – In Honor of Abraham Lincoln, The Feather Place is proud to have helped in commemorating the 150th Anniversary of Lincoln’s assassination and funeral with a historic reenactment of his final trip from Washington DC to Springfield IL.
JUNE : On “Saturday, June 27, Los Angeles’ Hollywood Blvd. miraculously transformed into a Grand Carnival & Street Extravaganza with parade-goers and masqueraders dressed in vibrant, breathe- taking [feather] costumes dancing to pulsating rhythms of Calypso, Soca, Reggae, Zouke, Latin, Punta, Meringue, Mariachi, Reggaeton, Blues, Jazz, Steel-pan, Indian, Asian and other worldly music.” – laculturalfestival.com
JULY : The Feather Place in collaboration with Los Angeles costume designer extraordinaire Ami Goodheart and PEPSI ; is proud to present the Pepsi X Momotaro Forever Challenge Ep.3. Instead of going with the traditional route of generic beverage commercials, Pepsi reinvents Japan’s oldest folktale of Momotaro and gives us the Pepsi X Momotaro Forever Challenge commercial series!
AUGUST : Open in Downtown Los Angeles since 1939, California Millinery Supply Co. is a treasure trove and your only go to hat and millinery supply store in California, or perhaps one of the last still open in the nation? Truly a diamond in the rough – and one of DTLA’s best kept secrets in the Fashion District!
SEPTEMBER : We love featuring our talented clients especially when showcasing artistry created with the help of our feather products. Let the sultry Ariana Savalas & Los Angeles-based dance troupe, LA Follies tickle you fancy with brilliant this arrangement of Blank Space!
OCTOBER : The vibrant and symbolic traditions behind traditional Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) celebrations (November 1st) are becoming more mainstream with each passing year, spreading from Mexico through the US and beyond. Among the most popular Day of the Dead icons are skulls and skeletons, which pop up everywhere on the days and weeks leading up to Dia de los Muertos. With that in mind here’s our whimsical Felt and Feather Dia de los Muertos Skull Broach project that you can DIY and wear to your local Day of the Dead cultural events.
NOVEMBER : The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show didn’t air till Dec. 8 at 10 p.m. on CBS, but here’s a sneak peek of this year’s angels taking flight on the runway. Ranging from bright and bold custom dyed Lady Amherst Pheasant Tails to fun and flirty Ostrich Plumes and Fringe…We love the assortment of feathers they used this year on the angel wings!
