Houston’s Ballet Ball Most Stunning Costumes and Couture paid tribute to the company’s upcoming production of Swan Lake.  Of course most notably were the feather coated couture gowns worn by ball chair and guests who raised more than 1.4 million dollars for the Hurricane Harvey damaged ballet theater.

“On this grand evening, no one was more spectacular than ball chair Hallie Vanderhider, who dressed for the first part of the evening in a couture Naeem Khan gown composed of 3,500 hand-sewn, black coque feathers (rooster tails) flowing with a mammoth train. (The dress was delivered to the party tent where Vanderhider donned it before guests arrived as it was too large even for a Bentley.) “The show opened with a floor-sweeping saffron evening coat and a truly spellbinding headpiece made of turquoise feathers, one of several Philip Treacy–designed headpieces in the show. Some were feathered, while others mimicked leaves and flowers blooming around the models’ heads, and all of them came in a vibrant jewel tone to complement the richly colored clothes: mint with aquamarine; deep red with lime; neon pink with blush. – Vogue

When thinking about the hats for the collection, I envisioned this ethereal yet very powerful woman,” Treacy explained in the show notes. “She is almost like a celestial image, and the feathers are thought out to give a weightless effect that follows behind her and underlines the dichotomy between concealing and revealing.” – Vogue
